Zakim-Bunker Hill Bridge Mother’s Day Walk occurs.

Some 200,000 people celebrate Mother’s Day by taking advantage of the invitation to walk across the under-construction bridge between Charlestown and Boston. Another 800,000 people walk across the bridge on October 6, 2002, two days before the bridge is dedicated.*
